Natural Jade & Potato Pearl Knotted Necklace

A long, luxurious strand, this necklace features 45 large 12mm natural jade beads, with four 12mm freshwater potato pearls spaced evenly along the strand. The beads are hand-knotted on soft grey silk and finished with a gold-plated clasp. It was designed by Merchant Campbell and made here in Australia, and it’s exclusive to our range.

Our natural jade beads were sourced in person, through trusted contacts in Thailand we’ve built up over years of travelling and sourcing. Jade has been prized across Asia for thousands of years and is traditionally known as a stone of harmony, good fortune and protection. It’s also said to bring prosperity and long life.

Potato pearls are named for their gently rounded, slightly irregular shape, a bit like a new potato, and each one has its own lovely lustre. We hand-picked these good-quality freshwater pearls in person in Lombok, Indonesia. For centuries, pearls have been treasured as symbols of wisdom, purity and calm, and they have long been linked with the moon and the gentle pull of the sea. Paired with jade, they create a soft, serene combination with a beautiful sense of balance.

Each bead is individually knotted on grey silk. This traditional technique keeps the beads from rubbing against each other and helps protect them, and it also gives the necklace a lovely, fluid drape. The soft grey silk and sterling silver clasp let the rich green of the jade and the glow of the pearls take centre stage.

At approx. 67cm, it’s a generous length that sits gracefully at mid-chest. It’s lovely over a crisp white shirt or a simple dress. Pair it with our pearl and jade drop earrings and stretch bracelets for a coordinated look. It also makes a gorgeous gift.

Care
Pearls love to be worn, but they’re delicate, so put your necklace on last and take it off first. Apply perfume, hairspray and lotions beforehand, and remove it before swimming, showering or exercising. Keep the silk dry, as water can weaken and stretch it. After wearing, wipe the necklace gently with a soft, dry cloth. Store it flat, rather than hanging, in a soft pouch or box, away from other jewellery. Sterling silver can tarnish naturally over time, so give the clasp an occasional gentle buff with a silver polishing cloth. As with all knotted silk, it may need restringing after years of wear, which is a sign it’s been well loved!
