Product Description

Beautifully hand painted ceramic platters, crafted in the western region of Java, Indonesia — home to one of the island's oldest and most enduring ceramic traditions. This area, particularly the Plered district, has been a centre of pottery-making since the late 18th century, and its craft carries a distinct thread of Chinese heritage, brought by generations of Chinese potters and traders whose techniques and decorative styles wove into the local tradition over centuries of exchange along Java's trading routes, particularly during the time of the spice trade in the 14th, 15th & 16th centuries..

That heritage is visible in the fine hand painted detailing on these platters, where traditional motifs and glazing techniques reflect a rich fusion of Javanese and Chinese ceramic artistry passed down through generations of skilled local potters. Each piece is individually hand painted, so gentle variation in the brushwork and pattern is part of its authentic, handmade character.

Wonderfully versatile, these platters are equally at home serving food at the centre of the table — think cheese, antipasto, salads or a beautiful spread for entertaining — or hanging on a wall or propped on a stand as a striking decorative piece in its own right.

Dimensions: Available in two sizes: 42cm (diameter) and 54cm diameter

Care instructions: Hand wash gently with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge — avoid dishwashers, as this can damage the hand painted glaze over time. Avoid abrasive scourers or harsh chemicals. Dry thoroughly before storing, and avoid sudden temperature changes (e.g. straight from fridge to oven), as this may cause cracking.
