Product Description

A touch of glamour, with a whole lot of personality! These drop earrings pair large freshwater baroque pearls with vivid green malachite, hung on gold vermeil shepherd’s hooks. They were designed by Merchant Campbell, made locally, and are exclusive to our range.

Baroque pearls are pearls with an irregular, organic shape, so each one has its own curves, character and lustre. Margot hand-picked these good-quality freshwater pearls in person in Lombok, Indonesia, through trusted contacts she’s built up over years of travelling and sourcing. For centuries, pearls have been treasured as symbols of wisdom, purity and calm, and they have long been linked with the moon and the gentle pull of the sea.

The pearls are paired with 12mm malachite beads, which Margot also sourced in person, this time through her contacts in Bangkok. Malachite is a striking green stone with natural swirls and bands that make every bead unique. It’s traditionally known as a stone of transformation and protection, and it’s said to encourage positive change and open the heart. Together, the two make a lovely balance of calm and vibrant energy.

The hooks are gold vermeil (pronounced “ver-may”), which is a real step up from standard gold plate. Gold-plated jewellery usually has a very thin layer of gold over a base metal such as brass or copper, so it can wear away quickly and may irritate sensitive ears. Vermeil, on the other hand, uses a base of sterling silver with a much thicker layer of gold on top. This means it lasts longer, keeps its warm golden glow and is gentler on many sensitive ears. The shepherd’s hook style is a simple, elegant curve that sits comfortably in the ear and lets the drops swing freely.

Wear them with linen and denim on a sunny afternoon, or with something black for an evening out. They’re a gorgeous gift, too, for someone who loves jewellery with a story.

Care
Pearls love to be worn, but they’re delicate, so put your earrings on last and take them off first. Apply perfume, hairspray and lotions before putting them on, and remove them before swimming, showering or exercising. Malachite is a soft stone and gold vermeil can wear with moisture, so keep them dry and away from chemicals and cleaning products. After wearing, wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth, and store them on their own in a soft pouch or box so they don’t get scratched.
