Traditionally, sindoor boxes were used to store sindoor — the vivid red or vermillion powder worn by married Hindu women along the parting of their hair, signifying marital status, and used in religious rituals and festival celebrations. Kept on home altars or dressing tables and often included as part of a bride's dowry, these boxes were treasured, everyday objects passed down through generations — which is exactly why the wood carries such depth of colour and character today.
