About Rangotri:

Rangotri comes from a woman of incredible style, Sonu Joshi, whose business ticks all our boxes of looking after workers and the environment whilst ensuring the ancient tradition of block printing continues into the future.

Sonu's business recipe is clear and simple; each piece is meticulously created with unwavering dedication and integrity, reflecting the company's sincere commitment to quality and authenticity. Hearts are poured into every creation, ensuring that they are made thoughtfully and honestly, with a deep sense of pride. These textiles are meant to be cherished and enjoyed with the same level of intention and care that goes into their making. This is one of the few studios in the block-printing industry where all processes are done in-house and so quality control is ensured  This family owned and operated textile business also has a strong focus on water harvesting, water recycling and uses solar panels to generate their own power.

Everything in the process of making these tablecloths is done in-house. From the design of the patterns and the intricate carving of the teak blocks and the mixing of the dyes and the block printing, to the sewing of hems, right down to the packing and wrapping of our order: worker job satisfaction, the environment and quality control take the front seat.

Block printing is an ancient method of printing that dates back thousands of years – traditionally block printed fabrics are made by artisans such as block print carvers, dye makers, printers and quilters, using skills passed down from generation to generation. Intricately handcrafted teak blocks are used to print these lovely patterns onto the fabric. The wood blocks are carefully dipped in trays of pigment dye and pressed onto the fabric, moving from left to right. Many blocks are used to make the intricate patterns you see on our quilts, tablecloths, runners, cushions and rugs, with each colour requiring a different block. A high level of skill is required to produce a printed fabric such as this. When the printing is complete, the fabric is dried, often over the wall of a building or in a field in the sun, washed and finally ironed.

  • 100% cotton, hand block printed by artisans in Jaipur, India, exclusively for Merchant Campbell
  • For spot cleaning, gently dab the area with water (do not rub).
  • Due to the nature of hand printed fabrics, variation in colour and pattern may occur. Keep out of direct sunlight to avoid excessive fading.
