Product Description

A pretty pair of pearl drop earrings is the perfect piece for your jewellery collection.

Made exclusively for Merchant Campbell by the ever-so-clever Rosie Windsor using South Sea pearls responsibly sourced on our recent buying trip to Lombok.

Do you know much about the lovely pearls from Lombok, Indonesia?  Do you know that like coral and amber, pearls are organic gems, grown naturally and shaped by nature.  Here's some more info for you...

Just off the shore of the island of Lombok are about 26 pearl farms.  Deep in the crystal clear sea water, pearls are farmed by the locals, an industry that has supported the towns and villages around this area for a long time.

The Pinctada maxima oysters grown here produce South Sea pearls.  South Sea pearls are the largest cultured-pearl variety, sometimes reaching over 20 millimeters in diameter with the best lustre and deepest nacre. The Pinctada maxima oyster can take up to five years to produce a single South Sea pearl, whereas more common freshwater oysters can take as little as three months and create dozens of pearls. This long cultivation process makes South Sea pearls far, far more beautiful, and rarer — and more expensive.
