Product Description

An impressive decorative relic from Rajasthan, this vintage temple horse head has been hand carved from solid teak and carries the quiet authority of age and craftsmanship. Once part of a sacred architectural setting, the form is strong and expressive — proud profile, flowing mane and softly worn contours shaped by years of handling and time.

We have a pair of these beautiful pieces, but they can be sold seperately.

In Rajasthani culture the horse holds deep significance, long associated with nobility, protection and honour. Celebrated in folklore and temple ornamentation, horses symbolised strength and guardianship — standing watch at entrances and shrines as auspicious protectors. Representations such as this were not purely decorative; they conveyed status and invoked courage, loyalty and safe passage.

The timber has matured to a warm, mellow tone with a natural patina that only decades can create. Mounted on a simple iron stand, the piece reads today as sculptural art — grounding a space rather than merely decorating it.

Substantial in scale and weight, it works best as a true statement: on a hall console, large sideboard or within a layered vignette where its presence can be appreciated.

Approximate dimensions:
650mm H × 450mm L × 160mm W

A one-off object with history and character — collected rather than manufactured.
