These drop earrings feature a 10mm freshwater potato pearl with a 12mm green malachite bead hanging below, on gold vermeil hooks. It's a timeless pairing that works for any occasion, from the office to a weekend lunch to a special celebration. They were designed by Merchant Campbell and made here in Australia, and they're exclusive to our range.

Potato pearls are named for their gently rounded, slightly irregular shape, a bit like a new potato, and each one has its own lovely lustre. We hand-picked these good-quality freshwater pearls in person in Lombok, Indonesia, through trusted contacts we've built up over years of travelling and sourcing. For centuries, pearls have been treasured as symbols of wisdom, purity and calm, and they have long been linked with the moon and the gentle pull of the sea.

Our malachite beads were also sourced in person, this time through our contacts in Thailand. Malachite is a striking green stone with natural swirls and bands that make every bead unique. It's traditionally known as a stone of transformation and protection, and it's said to encourage positive change and open the heart. Together, pearls and malachite make a lovely balance of calm and vibrant energy.

The hooks are gold vermeil (pronounced "ver-may"), which is a real step up from standard gold plate. Gold-plated jewellery usually has a very thin layer of gold over a base metal such as brass or copper, so it can wear away quickly and may irritate sensitive ears. Vermeil, on the other hand, uses a base of sterling silver with a much thicker layer of gold on top. This means it lasts longer, keeps its warm golden glow and is gentler on many sensitive ears.

Wear them on their own, or pair them with our potato pearl and malachite stretch bracelet for a coordinated look. They make a lovely gift, too.

Details

10mm freshwater potato pearls, hand-picked in person in Lombok, Indonesia

12mm green malachite beads, hand-picked in person in Thailand

Malachite bead hangs below the pearl

Gold vermeil hooks

Designed by Merchant Campbell and made in Australia

Exclusive to Merchant Campbell

As each pearl and malachite bead is unique, each pair will vary slightly in shape, colour, pattern and lustre

Care
Pearls love to be worn, but they're delicate, so put your earrings on last and take them off first. Apply perfume, hairspray and lotions beforehand, and remove them before swimming, showering or exercising. Malachite is a soft stone and gold vermeil can wear with moisture, so keep them dry and away from chemicals and cleaning products. After wearing, wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth, and store them on their own in a soft pouch or box so they don't get scratched.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0741/7125/3043/files/A_pair_of_drop_earrings_with_a_white_pearl_a_green_malachite_bead_and_gold_hooks..jpg?v=1793063396
