Stylish cushions are a clever and simple way to transform a room, and much less expensive than replacing or recovering a piece of furniture. Our beautiful hand-stitched woollen crewelwork cushions from Kashmir have centuries of tradition and skill behind them. Available in three sizes,
the 40cm x 65cm cushion is lovely placed horizontally along a sofa or a bed. The 65cm x 65cm cushion sits beautifully on a bed as a pair or on a large sofa as a feature, and the 50cm x 50cm size cushions are the perfect size for chairs and/or scatter cushions for sofas.
Embroidered solely by men, these cushions reflect the patterns and traditions of this magical part of the world. Each pattern, which was exclusively designed for Merchant Campbell, is block-printed onto the fabric, using specially made and designed wooden block prints for crewelwork. The woollen crewelwork is then stitched by men, either at home amongst their families or with other men in the village hall or at another home. The men who stitch these beautiful patterns are often seen as the deep thinkers, the wise people of the community, and it's not uncommon for villagers to drop in and sit with them, seeking their advice and thoughts on tricky subjects.
Merchant Campbell loves to support these artisans whose livelihoods are affected by the continuing troubles in Kashmir.
