Pretty floral bowls, hand painted in Java. Lovely for nuts and dips, small salads or sauces and available in two sizes.
The people who make and hand-paint these pieces came to Jave during the 15th and 16th centuries as spice traders. Orginally from China, they're now Indonesian in every way. But, their Chinese heritage comes through in their work, centuries on. Don't you love that?
Ceramics tell the tale of trade throughout the world. If you think about the blue and white Delft china from Holland, the Spode. Blue Willow and Johnston ware of England, the blue & white china of Tierra Del Fuego of Spain, these all came to Europe from China via Marco Polo. The blue & white china from Japan and also from Java, Indonesia, came across from China too. So fascinating.
